Unconvetional approach to decorating
Discovering an idea that pokes a hole in the conventional way of doing anything is tremendously exciting.
And so it was for me when, at the outset of my journey with Muze, I realized the creative potential of colour as a decorating tool. Over the years, many more realizations about creative expression in decorating surfaced in my awareness. Each realization would call my attention to the obvious, natural overlap between decorating and art.
Eventually, the two disciplines sort of merged in my mind, and now I think of them as inseparable: I treat decorating as an artistic process, I search for inspiration in the individuality of my clients, and I work with interior surfaces - walls, ceilings and more - as an artistic canvas.
This meld of decorating and art forms the basis for my unconventional approach to decorating.
DECORATING IS AN ARTISTIC PROCESS
Imagination is a foundational element in my work. I dream up unique custom art and bespoke wall treatments for every project.
I like to explain my work as the opposite of decorating out of a catalogue. This is because it pivots on creating objects and ideas that do not exist, as opposed to working with things that have already been created by someone (things that come in predetermined colour ways, dimensions, finishes, etc.).
This decorating approach implies starting with a clean slate, not knowing what the final result will look like, yet trusting that it will be everything you’re looking for. So it pivots on trust, open communication and understanding that the success of a particular project is a function of a partnership between the client and an artist.
To safeguard the peace of mind of my clients, I take high-quality photos of the project space when possible and use them to create photorealistic design renderings. This way, the clients can easily visualize what the final result will look like when commencing production. Furthermore, a full round of revision is included in the standard service package. I invite my clients to provide feedback on the work and use their input to make design modifications/adjustments.
THE CLIENT IS A MUSE
The beauty of life lies in the diversity of creation and the uniqueness of each of its pieces.
I believe that by expressing and celebrating our individuality in as many ways as possible, we can enliven and enjoy the fullness of living.
My work is an opportunity to discover or amplify our client’s uniqueness because no two people or spaces are alike and every person has a unique story to tell.
THE WALLS OF A SPACE IS AN ARTISTIC CANVAS
Of course, many existing ideas and objects can inspire or influence the work.
The goal is never to copy but rather to adopt & get inspired and make something new.
Although my work factors in a vast array of influences, it always starts and ends with a specific person and a specific space. That’s why no two projects look alike. That’s how my work creates a deeper connection between people and their homes.
